Swimming & Coffee

In Search of a new Wonder Pool. And the occasional coffee.

North Sydney Olympic Pool was opened on 4th April 1936 and closed for a two year redevelopment on 28th February 2021. It was originally known as the Wonder Pool, and more world records were set at this pool than in any other. It’s a magical place.

I’ve swum thousands of laps over the years at North Sydney, three times a week most weeks since I moved to Australia. I was lucky enough to be in the last group of swimmers to swim in the pool on the afternoon of 28th February 2021.

I’m going to be in exile from my favourite pool in the entire world for the next two years while it’s redeveloped, so I’ve decided to try as many of Sydney’s 50m pools as I can in that time. There are plenty to choose from, but I doubt any will match The Wonder Pool of Australasia.
